What does Peggy Carter mean to you?
10/5/2015
I could go on for days about how much I love Peggy Carter and why! Some of my friends have even taken to calling me "English" because they associate her with me. I have loved Peggy Carter from her first moments on screen in 'The First Avenger.' It is hard for me, and for many I would think, to not identify with her when she says she knows what it's like to have "every door shut in your face." Who hasn't experienced a time where they've felt like they just couldn't break through to something they wanted? I've felt it so many times.
I think Agent Carter is incredibly well done and I'm so thrilled to see more of Peggy's story unfold. This is the Marvel Cinematic Universe's first female headliner and, as my sister said, "It’s fitting that the first be Peggy, who faces Hydra agents and evil doers, but also rampant sexism in her own organization, in a time when many men openly viewed women as second class citizens. Peggy goes on to lead SHIELD and helps pave the way for the women of our generation, and hopefully Agent Carter will pave the way for many more future female lead properties in the MCU." I impatiently waited for Agent Carter from the time it was announced and I tuned in eagerly each week to watch one of my favorite fictional characters of all time. Peggy is strong while still being feminine. She is resourceful. She is intelligent. She is real. She is such a positive role model for all women and she was what I needed most. Peggy Carter help me re-learn strength and worth during one of the lowest points of my life in the aftermath of an emotionally abusive relationship. She re-taught me that even strong women cry. She taught me to know my value and I will forever love her, the writers of Agent Carter, and Hayley Atwell for that. If I could hug all of them and tell them that in person, I would. I know my value again <3 To boot, the show tackles issues that are still relevant today with humor and heart. I couldn't adore it or Peggy more. She is a woman I aspire to be like, and I am so thrilled that her fan base just keeps growing. Hayley Atwell and the character of Peggy have inspired me so much, and in a deeply personal way. She and her supporting cast are flawless. I'll never get enough :) In 2015, I started a Facebook group for anyone who cosplays from Agent Carter and the response has been overwhelming. I've met so many amazing people, and the community is an absolute love fest of people sharing ideas, resources, and encouragement. We are also very protective of each other, so don't mess with the Peggy Platoon :P Comments are closed.
